Cienega Ranch

Cienega and HYL Ranch combined is a nearly 70,000 acres (44,000 acres deeded and 20,000+ acres leased) in the Chihuahuan desert of southeastern Arizona. When first bought in the 1980’s, the land was severely eroded and the natural grasslands had been struggling for years. Its goal is to integrate a fully operational cattle company with ecosystem restoration and wildlife conservation efforts. HYL Ranch and Cienega Ranch are treated separately because they are very different ecologically, and until J Austin bought the properties, they had always been under different ownership.
